RFID Asset Inventory Project
Financial Reporting Services is implementing a new Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) asset inventory process for the University of Kansas. The RFID asset inventory process will:
- Create efficiencies with RFID technology implemented
- Promote touchless asset inventory
- Reduce disruptions to university operations in sensitive spaces
- Improve accuracy of capital equipment records
- Improve safeguarding and internal controls around capital assets
The RFID tagging process will include several phases:
Kick Off:
- Information will be shared with the university community
- Initial Town Hall Meetings
- Clarification of roles and responsibilities
- Opportunity for Questions
Phase 1: Building Blitz
- HCA and KU staff will work on buildings to tag capitalized assets across campus, with a focus on those buildings with significant capital assets
- Majority of the equipment will be located during this phase
- Estimated time frame: June 22, 2026 through July 17, 2026
Phase 2: Reconciliation
- Department focus of assets not found during the Building Blitz phase
- List of "to be accounted for" items will be provided to departments in advance
- Estimated time frame: July 20, 2026 through August 21, 2026
Wrap Up
- Complete any lingering items
- Finalize reports
- Estimated time frame: August 24, 2026 through August 31, 2026
